Shout from the Rooftops
Do you have something to say? Do you lack any good report of the goodness of Christ in your life? I ask, only because I have just come out of such a dry place. It was dry but no longer. I have tasted going through the motions – living in a reactive state. Losing sight of why I am where I am.
This was not years of life before coming to the saving knowledge of Christ and surrender and salvation. It was just this week. Perhaps, I now reflect, it was due to the lack of typical fellowship with my brothers and sisters in the office. Or, the complete disruption of schedules, the constant input of doubt, fear, and uncertainty.
Pause and Return
In a recent small group study, the encouragement shared by one of the leaders, when the direction seemed foggy and gray – pause and return. It was suggested, and rightly so, to return to the last point of reference you had clarity in Christ – by Holy Spirit, by the Scripture or a message from a friend. Return, I did.
Now, this short episode, sobering as it was (to me anyway) – gives rise to a testimony. A testimonial snapshot, you might say. I sought for a grand example to share and ended up living through just that – a small, seemingly insignificant detour driven by events and circumstances.
Distracted not Distant
All the while the Holy Spirit was and IS with me. One verse, God shares in Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The eyes of my heart had focused on distraction – not that it isn’t real – it just is not the best reality, period. There is peace, and joy that I can rest in through Christ, thankfully, and it is available to all who call on His Holy name and confess with their mouths from the heart. If you have never trusted in him – maybe today is that day. It will make all the difference – and you will have a much longer testimony to share than this snapshot!
