Matthew 7:7-8

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

For those who have been walking with us on the creation stage of The Greater Glory Co., you will recall this verse being quoted, or paraphrased.  Ask, Seek, Knock.  Each step, with a few exceptions, has been guided by this biblical truth – thanks to Holy Spirit for the prompts, pauses and pushes.

Today I reflected on an example to share.  Initially, I thought back to various stages of the set-up of the start-up and began to classify which instances might best illustrate the wonder of intimacy we can share with the Lord.  It hit me, I was bypassing the very subject I hoped to illustrate.  Pause.  Pray – ask, seek, knock.

Ask and it will be given to you…

So, with some quiet time on a hiking trail, I asked.  Simple as it sounds – and as clear as the path ahead I asked of the Lord.  Which scenario should I share?  Which will be most helpful to others?  Then, peace and quiet.

Seek and you will find…

After a few distractions, of the hiking type – streams to cross, hills to climb, and pictures to snap the asking was complete and the focus was on the seek.  I share this not as a formula but as a biblical practice to grow in your relationship with the Father.  The seeking also helps me to focus the motivation of my heart in relation to what I ask – is it in line with the love of Christ – not selfishness ambition, worldly pleasure or the deceitfulness of riches.

Knock and the door will be opened to you.

Three promises of God – Ask, Seek, Knock.  It is all there.  The knock I believe is where the true intimacy of relationship unfolds.  The all-knowing creator of everything already knows what you ask and need, but He wants you to know him.  Once my heart is open before the Lord and the sincerity of the ASK is in line with why I SEEK – a knock at the door and listen for the still small voice.

Obedience to Follow

So what was the scenario He wanted me to share?  Back in June/July a stretch goal for the launch of greater-glory.com was set for January 31, 2020.  It was clear two weeks out that was not going to happen.  Then, and with a sense of despair and frustration, I sought the will of the Lord.  ASK, SEEK, KNOCK.  The one-word response – PATIENCE.

It was at that point I was able to release the pressure of the stretch goal, and let all the pieces and partners harmonize with His plan and purpose.  Now, writing this post, even before the launch is publically launched it is refreshing to see the Lord’s perfect timing unfold.

Obedience to follow the answer is where the relationship elevates and our faith grows.  A friend of mine shares a phrase in all of his email sign-offs – Onward and Upward.  Keep asking, seeking and knocking – you will find what your heart is looking for when you seek with a heart for the Lord.
